For those of you who have lived in this magical city long enough, you will definitely agree that the beautyFrom being a charming hopeless romantic in his debut ‘Saugandh’ to winning a National Award for his role in ‘Rustom’, there’s nothing this man can’t do, except dissatisfy. So, to make a public declaration of my love to our very own Khiladi Kumar, The CineSurgeon takes a walk down memory lane with the Top 10 AK films that prove his versatility, dedication, and brilliant journey! Happy 51st Birthday Akshay! of the monsoons is unmatchable. And what better way to embrace these rains than by sitting at your window with a cup of masala chai, a plate of pyaaz pakoras and of course, a perfect playlist:
10. Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994)
A blast from our past! Major throwback to AK’s cool dude, ladies’ man days (both professionally & personally) that pretty much solidified his still-relevant female fan following! Don’t know about you but I definitely had my heart stolen away with ‘Chura Ke Dil Mera’…
9. Dhadkan (2000)
And who remembers the time he gave us major hubby goals with his role as the perfect sanskaari khandaani pati, Ram? You know, the kind that every girl (and her parents) fantasize about? #Guilty
8. Ajnabee (2001)
But of course, how can we forget those villain days? A badass attitude, a crooked smile and romancin’ the babes onscreen…ahhh, turn up the AC please cause this is just too hot to handle!
7. Phir Hera Pheri (2006)
Warning – too much laughter is injurious to health, please watch at your own risk! Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard on bizarre senseless PG-13 jokes and a classic trio that can never possibly be forgotten!
6. Namaste London (2007)
Is it getting hot in here? Throwback to the ridiculously steamy, temperature-raising Akki-Kat pair that did about 8 movies together in the span of just 4 years and got the whole nation sweating buckets with their oh-so-sizzling chemistry!
5. Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007)
And sprinkle a bit of horror to that classic AK comedy and you have an entirely new genre right there! I can’t think of anyone else who could have mastered the role of madman Dr. Aditya Srivastava, who made us roll on the floor laughing and hide under the blanket scared at the same time!
4. Rowdy Rathore (2012)
Entertainment overdoze! I can’t get over how our Khiladi pulled off a Prabhudeva film so flawlessly with his subtly overdramatized acting, exaggerated action scenes and of course, the super duper hit ‘Chinta ta chita chita’ 😉
3. Baby (2015)
Easily one of my all-time favourites! A crisp, gripping, patriotic thriller of a story never heard or told before that is bound to leave you floored & how! And I bet all you can think of is that greatly popular Saudi desert wire-jumping house-breaking and straight up mind-boggling scene, right?
2. Airlift (2016)
‘Cause watching that graceful transition of Ranjit Katiyal, from a snobbish loaded Kuwaiti business tycoon to a patient, fervent Hindustani is my soul-food! And the extent to which this film brings out the inner-Indian in you… yeh tu kabhi soch na sake!
1. Padman (2018)
But hats-off to this legend for giving the country what it actually needs – awareness! Having the power to change people’s mindsets with realistic films about relevant social issues that desperately need to be addressed… now that’s what I call a real superhero!
