Hey there, fellow Filmy!
I am Diu Somani, aka The Cinesurgeon.
My life is all about animals and Bollywood. I decided I wanted to be a veterinarian when I was very young and charted a course to bring my passion alive. I am currently a student of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery at the Royal Veterinary College in London.
If you didn’t guess from all the hints already, I am also Bollywood mad. Every Bollywood movie mandates a first day, first show watch, followed by intense debates with whoever is is around – my parents, my brother, my friends, random desis on the tube.
Why Bollywood? Because Every Bollywood film is an alternate reality. A magical, immersive experience with romance, action, songs.. sometimes silly, often bizarre but never without fairy dust.
I’ve also tried my hands at real-world magic. I interned with Excel Entertainment where I worked on projects like 3 Storeys, Inside Edge and Fukrey Returns.
Before you go exploring The Cine Surgeon, here are three things you must know about me.
- I can’t get enough of Munna Bhai MBBS. It’s the movie she would watch over and over and over and over.
- Main Hoon Na and Fanaa are my soultrain.
- I am truly and deeply mad about Akshay Kumar. I love everything about him. Everything.
I first started out reviewing movies on my Facebook page. By much prodding from my growing tribe of fellow Filmys, I decided it was time share my reviews regularly through a blog. And the rest, as they say, is cinematic history!
I love breaking down movies and debating the nuances on screen with other Filmys. The Cine Surgeon is a safe space for Bollywood mad people to come together and discuss their views without fear of judgement. I welcome you all.
Write to me at thecinesurgeon@gmail.com. I look forward to your comments. If you’d like me to review a particular movie, let me know.
Happy exploring!
